Sidesperson's Duties

Before the service:

  1. Please arrive promptly by 9:40 am.
  2. When there is no Sunday School, ensure tables and chairs are put out in the Community Room.
  3. Ensure that the Paschal Candle is lit, except during Lent. N.B. Normally it is next to the table at the back but during Easter Season it is at the front in the middle of the Chancel.

During the service

  1. If the weather is warm, please leave the front door open on the hook, and also leave the blue doors open, to let air circulate!
  2. Ensure that a number of "packs" are available both on the bookshelf on the back pew, and also on the shelf in the porch, to make sure those coming in late have what they need.
  3. Check that parents with young children know (a) about Sunday School; (b) that there are some books and drawing materials for children in the North side-aisle; and (c) that there are toys at the back, only for those too young for Sunday School.
  4. For the Bread & Wine (Gifts) and Collection (Offertory):
    1. those taking up the gifts and those receiving the collection: start moving up the centre aisle on the first sung note of the Offertory Hymn;
    2. those receiving the Collection: begin at the front, work their way to the back, then take it all up to the sanctuary on the large plate;
    3. the gifts and the Collection: should be received by the Crucifer, Eucharistic Assistant, or President. “Please wait for a nod from the president before leaving the sanctuary.”

After the service

  1. Open the door out of church during the final hymn.
  2. Please encourage the sidespeople, uniformed organisations, or children to collect up all the service books, including from the choir stalls, especially if it is a last day with a particular order of service.
  3. Take all service sheets and service books back to the rear window of the church.
